Jacqueline Wilson’s young adult novel Girls Under Pressure is a fabulous read that is relatable, hilarious and inspiring. Though the storyline's time is around late 1990’s, it speaks the truth of every girl’s struggles and challenges she faces whether it may be from confidence or body positivity.
Girls Under Pressure tells the readers about 13-year-old Ellie, who witnesses a modeling photo shoot happening at her local mall and discovers that she may not look like the other girls her age, depicted as “model-girl” thin. Ellie goes through various forms of dieting and exercise, and battles to make herself “skinny”. Ellie deals with all sorts of conflicts until finally realizing that she may be going too far and restricting herself; she goes on a journey of self-development and confidence in herself through the help of friends and family.
