The Chandler Public Library gets by with a little help from our Friends… actually, we get by with A LOT of help from our Friends! Every year, the Friends of the Chandler Public Library give over $25,000 to fund summer reading programs for all ages, adult literacy programs, early literacy efforts, cultural programming and to help support staff and volunteer training. In addition, the Friends have rallied countless times to advocate for our library and the importance of library services.
October 15-21, 2017 is the 12th annual National Friends of Libraries Week, and it’s the perfect opportunity to give our Friends a big shout out for all they do to make a difference for us every single day. Celebration activities include special children’s programs through the week based on the theme of friendship and awareness of Friends’ sponsored programs and how to become a Friend.
“Our Friends make our great library even better,” said library manager Dan Lee. “The funds they raise through membership and used book sales allow us to enhance our programming that we couldn’t otherwise provide the public. I think most customers would be surprised to learn how many of the services and programs they enjoy are supported by the Friends.”
It’s easy to support the Friends: attend a program sponsored by the Friends of the Library; shop the Friends used book sales (both online and in the library**); volunteer your time; become a paid member for $25! For more information on the Friends of the Chandler Public Library, visit the Friends webpage.
**Our next discount Book Bonanza sale will start later this month, October 31 through November 2. Friends members can get the most out of their membership by shopping at the Friends Preview Sale on October 30 - best selection with early discounted pricing. Great Friends make great libraries… and great libraries make strong communities.
