Chords & Coffee is a monthly acoustic music performance series in the Cup O' Karma common area at the Downtown Chandler Library. This month features Taylor Cohen (aka BreakingBones), an independent recording artist who plays indie/acoustic music. Join us on Tuesday, November 27 at 7 p.m.
Taylor’s cover of the Pixies’ “Where is my Mind” immediately caught this reviewer’s Generation X ears. Her hypnotic treatment of this “modern rock” sing-a-long allows one to easily imagine hearing it during a pivotal scene in a film like Boyhood, Lady Bird or Young Adult. Another highlight is her bold interpretation of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” Many of her originals emanate a sense of natural world wonder that is conveyed through her textured voice and tones echoing off the wood grains of her acoustic guitar. She brings her vast experience to the Chords & Coffee stage as she has been writing songs since age thirteen. Her latest ep, titled Beach, was recorded over in Newport Beach - fittingly under a lifeguard tower!
Not only is Taylor a talented insurgent musician, she is also a globally-ranked skateboarder (which may explain the BreakingBones handle), visual artist and professional photographer. In short, Taylor is a modern Renaissance woman and others are beginning to take notice - like VoyagePhoenix. In July, she received extensive multi-media coverage from this influential online magazine.
Chords & Coffee began in 2014 as Acoustic Blend and has featured such acts as Terra Cotta Music, the Scotts, Brian Kabala and the Girl with the Blue Guitar. The series is a partnership with Cup O’ Karma: Community Café for a Cause, located in the lobby of the Downtown Chandler Library. In addition to offering food and beverages, Cup O’Karma provides a host of resources and a safe environment for at-risk community members.
