Whether you are a gardener in need of seeds or a novice looking for answers, Seed Swap at Sunset is the place to come! Join us at the Chandler Sunset Library on Saturday, January 26 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, to share seeds and seed starts, meet local gardeners, and exchange gardening tips. You can participate even if you do not bring seeds. Seed Swap, now in its eighth year at Sunset, is great for master and novice.
Participating gardeners often share excess seeds they don’t plan to use and seeds from their most successful yields. By using seeds from previous bountiful yields, future harvests can turn out to be overwhelmingly successful. Many of the seeds that are “swapped” are also specific to plants that are appropriate to grow in this region and climate.
Beginning in February, the seeds suitable for planting are: cucumbers, green beans, pepper, melons, pumpkin, sweet corn, squash and tomatoes. Share your seeds and see what other seeds may be available for "swapping." There are also often sunflowers and other wildflowers, and loofah seeds - which turn into the big loofahs you use in the shower.
There will be plants available to take home and we will be raffling off some really cool prizes, like books by Dave Owens (AKA Dave the Garden Guy) and Seed Swap T-Shirts. The event is free and open to the public, and you don’t have to bring your own seeds to participate.
