February is Library Lovers Month! Any time is a great time to love your library, but if you haven’t been to your local library yet, or if it’s been a while since you’ve come in, or if there are just some things you might not know your library offers, why not take this opportunity to visit?
What can you do at your library? Children of all ages learn the love of reading at our storytimes. Grownups can foster their own love of reading at our book groups. But we're not just about books! Kids can get a head start on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) with our many programs. Adults can take basic computer classes and other adult education offerings, including Citizenship classes and GED study. Visit our calendar of events for a complete schedule at all our branches.
We also have a world of resources on and off our shelves. Take a look at our Books page for reading suggestions and booklists. Our A-Z Resources page gets you access to the many online resources we subscribe to - all free to you with your library card - from Academic OneFile for research papers, to Flipster for full-page digital magazines to read, and everything in between (including business information, foreign language learning, test preparation, music downloads, streaming documentary and independent films, online courses from Lynda.com, and much more).
Do you love reading about libraries? Check out this booklist of fiction and nonfiction about libraries and librarians, including history like The Book Thieves and Susan Orlean’s bestseller The Library Book, librarians’ stories like Dear Fahrenheit 451, bookish fiction like The Library at the Edge of the World and even library mysteries like Shelved Under Murder.
Can’t make it in to the library to get a card? We now offer eCards that allow access to our online resources, including ebooks and more! If you’re a Maricopa County resident, you can fill out the online form to register for your eCard. See more at our Get a Library Card page. eCard users can come in to the library at any time to upgrade to a full-access card that allows checkout of books and other physical materials.
Library Lover’s Month is a promotion designed by the Friends and Foundations of California Libraries, as part of the American Library Association’s “@ Your Library” campaign in 2003. Find out more at librarysupport.net/librarylovers.
