If you enjoy reading about the U.S. Civil War or have readers, especially students, interested in this fascinating era of United States History, Chandler Public Library has an exciting print collection. Being responsible at the Downtown Branch for the 900 area (history), I came across Shiloh: Voices of the Civil War. Often teachers and professors want primary sources. This book has actual letters written home to loved ones from not only officers but soldiers. Surprisingly, these letters include travels down the Tennessee River to Pittsburgh Landing (or Shiloh as the South called it) by the Yanks and the journey to Shiloh by Rebel forces under by General Sidney Johnston. The Civil War by Geoffrey L. Ward is another great source that includes photographs taken during the war, has an excellent index and outstanding bibliographies, plus film sources. So for a great insight and hard-to-come-by primary sources, this is a great source! - Henry (Downtown)
